PN seizes nine illegal firearms and arrests seven people during operations in Santiago

Santiago. — Investigation agents of the National Police, in coordination with the Preventive Police, seized nine illegal firearms and arrested seven people during operations carried out in the last 12 hours in different sectors of this city, as part of the preventive actions to reinforce citizen security in this province. Among those arrested is Johan Manuel de la Cruz Puntier, who, upon noticing the police presence, attempted to flee aboard a Toyota Corolla vehicle, without managing to escape. During the search of the car, the authorities seized a Glock pistol, with two magazines and six cartridges, as well as two M16A rifles caliber 5.56 mm, one with legible numbering and the other not legible, in addition to several magazines and ammunition, all without the corresponding legal documentation. The other people arrested were identified as Angelo Alberto Domínguez Espinal, Jerfrey de Jesús Hernández Pimentel, Jeury Mejía González, José Amado Castro Rubio, Rony Daury González Ramírez, and a woman whose name is withheld for investigation purposes.

During the operations, pistols, a shotgun, and a revolver were also seized, along with their respective magazines and ammunition, all carried illegally. In addition, cell phones, cash, and other objects of interest for the investigative process were seized. The interventions were carried out in the sectors La Otra Banda, Plaza Valerio, La Joya, Monte Adentro, Cristo Rey, Los Guandales and Hato del Yaque, where several people who were moving with a suspicious profile or tried to evade the police presence were arrested. When checked in police systems, some of the detainees have criminal records. According to the authorities, those involved stated that they had acquired the weapons illegally, claiming alleged personal protection. The cases were duly documented and made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
