The Punta Catalina Electric Generation Company reported this Monday that unit I went out of operation due to a sargassum obstruction.
"Unit 1 went out of operation due to the effects of Hurricane Erin," the state-owned company reported.
They explained that they have the support of the Dominican Republic Navy and diving teams working on the cleaning and removal of sargassum, in order to achieve its restoration as soon as possible.
This situation occurs one day after unit II of the thermoelectric plant entered operation, after several days out of the National Interconnected Energy System (SENI), due to a technical incident.
President Luis Abinader himself visited the power plant last Saturday and reported on the measures being taken so that in the next six months, about 600 megawatts will enter the system gradually and comfortably satisfy the national energy demand.
