Mexico.- President Claudia Sheinbaum said this Friday that her government will send humanitarian aid to Cuba no later than Monday and that she is still looking for ways to send oil to the island without facing reprisals from the United States.
During her daily press conference, Sheinbaum pointed out that her team has been in contact with the Cuban ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martínez, to coordinate the shipment.
“We are considering sending this aid, if not this weekend, by Monday at the latest, and it is mainly food and some other supplies that they have asked us for, we have been working on it”, said the president.
CNN contacted the Cuban Chancellery to request more information about this shipment and is awaiting a response.
During the last few days, Sheinbaum has defended the support that Mexico gives to Cuba. Her Government has indicated that it sends oil to the island through two ways: as a sale and as humanitarian aid.
The issue has garnered more media attention as the United States has intensified its pressure on Cuba, where it says it expects to see a change soon. Last week, President Donald Trump even issued a decree threatening to impose additional tariffs on countries that directly or indirectly deliver oil to the island.

He also thanked the countries that have supported the island, such as Mexico, and insisted on the rejection of the United States' policies towards the Cuban government."As you know, in all diplomatic work to be able to send oil to Cuba. Obviously, we don't want there to be sanctions for Mexico but we are in that dialogue process," he explained.
