The US disengages from AI platform promoted by Jochi Gómez

Santo Domingo.- The United States Embassy in Santo Domingo denied having any connection with the artificial intelligence platform “María”, presented by the businessman José Gómez Canaán (Jochi Gómez), who faces corruption charges related to the traffic light network of the Greater Santo Domingo.

“The United States Government has not been involved in the development or operation of the Maria AI platform,” stated Michelle Angulo, spokesperson for the diplomatic corps. She also clarified that there is no relationship with Gómez Canaán.

The businessman, charged along with the former director of the National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (Intrant), Hugo Beras, for alleged irregularities in the awarding of public contracts, recently presented his artificial intelligence project, arguing that it can detect suspicious patterns in tenders. During the event, he was attended by Roger Stone, former advisor to former President Donald Trump.

In his speech, Gómez asserted that the platform is the result of his conviction for justice and transparency, and claimed to have renounced his shares in companies that contract with the Dominican State. However, he alleged that “María” was conceived with international support, including alleged alliances with the US government, which has been denied.

The case involving Gómez Canaán investigates a network of alleged corruption that would have defrauded the State through irregular contracts for the control of traffic and the traffic light network of Greater Santo Domingo.
