"Yes, everyone wanted me to do it. I was thinking of saving it for the right moment that seemed right. And then, you know, the game went into overtime. So well, we'll have to save it for later," Haliburton said in on-court statements to TNT at the end of the game.
Miller, who was at Madison Square Garden today, dedicated that same gesture to Spike Lee, a famous Knicks fan, after stringing together several decisive baskets in the fifth game of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals. Miller scored 39 points that day, 25 in the final quarter.
Today, Haliburton's incredible basket tied the game at 125 sending the game to overtime after the Pacers overcame a 14-point deficit in 2 minutes and 39 seconds.
"I didn't know how much time was left, so I just tried to calm down and take the shot. I thought it was a three, it didn't work, but we made it in overtime," he said.
Haliburton, who scored 31 points, said that today's result "is a great victory", but also said that the Pacers have "a lot to improve".
"I don't know how many rebounds they grabbed (the Knicks) in the end, but I feel like they dominated us there, and that's an area where we wanted to excel. We weren't good today, but we found a way to win. I'm very proud of this group," he said.
Knicks and Pacers will play the second game of the series this coming Friday again in New York.
