Mexico.- Mexico City's LGBTIQ+ Pride March will take place next Saturday, June 28, starting from the Angel of Independence, with the slogan "They are Pride", a slogan that pays special tribute to trans women and the LGBTIQ+ migrant community in the United States. The organizing committee, headed by Angelo Diep, announced the details of the march and emphasized its citizen, inclusive, and non-partisan character. Diep highlighted the urgency of making visible the double discrimination faced by LGBTIQ+ migrants, especially in the U.S., where many suffer persecution both for their migratory status and for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

“Para nuestro comité es muy importante enviar un mensaje de solidaridad porque nadie en el mundo tendría que ser objeto de persecución debido a su estatus migratorio”, expresó Diep.

Furthermore, the activist proposed a trans woman carrying the Mexican flag as the image for the official poster, as a symbol of pride, resistance, and visibility. The poster also seeks to raise awareness about two key issues: the absence of constitutional recognition of the LGBTIQ+ community in Mexico and the alarming figure of 2,000 daily deaths from HIV worldwide, many of which are preventable with information and access to treatments. For her part, Majo Serrano, founder of the National Alliance of LGBTIQ+ Marches of Mexico, insisted that this demonstration must be maintained as an authentically citizen expression. "Governments can support us, but they should not displace those of us who are organizing them because for them to organize them is an ideological contradiction," she affirmed.
La marcha recorrerá el icónico Paseo de la Reforma hasta llegar al Zócalo capitalino, en un ambiente que mezclará fiesta, reivindicación y resistencia.
