The sky will remain opaque and cloudy due to an anticyclonic system and Saharan dust

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasts that for this Thursday the weather conditions over the national territory continue to be dominated by an anticyclonic system in combination with a layer of Saharan dust, which generates an opaque sky, scattered to partly cloudy skies and scarce rainfall in a large part of the country.

Predictor Carla Morales explained that those dry conditions will remain during the day today, although in the afternoon some very localized showers with thunderstorms could be recorded, as a result of local effects.

Showers could affect provinces such as Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Juan, Elías Piña and some areas north of Santo Domingo.

Increase in rainfall due to tropical wave and trough

For this Friday, a change in the weather forecast is expected. "We will have a significant increase in rainfall due to the passage of tropical wave number 7 to the south of the country, combined with an upper-level trough," detailed Carla Morales.

These conditions will cause moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts over several regions of the country, especially the Caribbean coast, the northeast, southeast regions, and the Central mountain range.

High temperatures continue

The temperatures will remain very hot due to the time of year.

"It is important for the population to protect themselves from the extreme heat. We recommend drinking enough fluids, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.," he specified.

Caution on the southwest coast

Regarding maritime conditions, a special recommendation is maintained for the southwest coast of the country, from Isla Beata to Barahona.

"In that area, abnormal waves are expected, so we suggest that small vessels do not venture out to sea and stay close to the coast."

In the rest of the country's coasts, maritime conditions are favorable.
