Frontier operates the first flight from Puerto Plata to Puerto Rico

San Juan. – The airline Frontier Airlines inaugurated this Thursday a new direct air route between Puerto Plata and San Juan in Puerto Rico, reinforcing the connectivity between both Caribbean islands and their tourist and commercial exchange. In its initial phase, the route will have two weekly flights between Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), representing an increase of 4,464 available seats, with a direct economic impact on both locations. Willianette Robles, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, highlighted that Frontier "has proven to be an ally committed to the development of the tourism industry and the local economy."

Josh Flyr, the airline's Vice President of Route Design and Operations, emphasized that the route offers an "affordable" option for Dominicans traveling to Puerto Rico, while Jorge Hernández, president of Aerostar Puerto Rico, celebrated this expansion as an opportunity to expand San Juan's regional connectivity with the Caribbean and the Americas. The two weekly flights connecting Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport represent an increase of 4,464 seats to the existing inventory and will result in an estimated economic impact of $870,480 thousand to the Puerto Rican local economy.
