Consul Joaquín Díaz promotes bilateral cooperation between the Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda

Santo Domingo. - The Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Antigua and Barbuda, Joaquín Díaz López, held an important working meeting with the immigration authorities of this country, headed by the head of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, in which it was agreed to strengthen bilateral collaboration to address the situation of Dominican citizens in Antiguan territory. The meeting was also attended by the officer in charge of Immigration, Ms. Pilgrim; the station chief, J. Méndez; and immigration officer H. Smith, along with the Dominican diplomatic corps, who ratified the shared interest in guaranteeing fair and humane treatment to immigrants. Consul Díaz was accompanied by Vice Consul Huáscar Ogando, who served as a liaison in the work carried out, contributing to strengthen communication and coordination with local authorities. The Dominican consul highlighted that this result demonstrates the Dominican government's firm commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, while opening a new stage of cooperation with the authorities of Antigua and Barbuda. "This meeting sets an important precedent and encourages us to work together for the well-being of our fellow citizens. We have agreed with the head of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, to begin a work agenda to address the situation of Dominicans who remain in an irregular migratory condition, so that they receive fair and humanitarian treatment," said Díaz López. Likewise, he highlighted the full cooperation existing between the governments of Antigua and Barbuda and the Dominican Republic, aimed at maintaining a solid relationship based on mutual respect, and assured that work will continue in that same vein to further consolidate bilateral ties.
