Nearly 1,500 Polish trucks trapped in Belarus after border closure by Poland

Nearly 1,500 Polish trucks have been unable to leave Belarusian territory after the border closure by the Polish authorities, the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Belarus reported today.

"Due to Poland, 1,453 trucks with Polish license plates remain in Belarusian territory, as they failed to leave before the authorities of the neighboring country closed the border. Their exit is only possible through the Belarusian-Polish border section," the CEA emphasized in a statement reported by the Interfax agency.

The customs authority indicated that the transit permits granted to these trucks at the time of their entry into the country expire and that, once this occurs, the CEA could penalize the carriers.

"Polish entrepreneurs have become hostages of the actions of their own country's government," the CEA emphasized, adding that based on the "spirit of good neighborliness" it decided to extend transit permits for trucks by ten days.

On the eve of the Belarusian-Russian military exercises Zapad-2025, which began on the 12th and concluded yesterday, Poland closed its border with Poland for security reasons.

To this was added the aerial incursion a week ago of Russian drones into Polish territory, which accused Moscow of an "act of aggression".

Before that decision, the Belarusian-Polish border could be crossed by road in just two steps; one, for cargo vehicles, and the other, for private cars and passenger buses.

Passenger trains between Belarus and the countries of the European Union have not been running since 2020, when the crisis of illegal immigrants trying to enter European countries through Belarusian territory with the permissiveness of the Minsk authorities broke out.
