New York.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, called on the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) to activate all mechanisms at its disposal to generate a rapid, comprehensive, and effective response from the UN Security Council in Haiti, with the aim of addressing the Haitian crisis.
Chancellor Álvarez highlighted that in that spirit, last June President Luis Abinader took the initiative to address the members of the Security Council through letters, underlining the urgency of a decision on Haiti, and at the beginning of this month he did so again with the presidents of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation, expressing the Dominican Republic's firm support for the resolution project presented by Panama and the United States, and inviting them to seek a solution commensurate with the magnitude of the Haitian crisis.
He said that, in order to achieve the effectiveness of a new mission in Haiti, the important thing is that the mandate be robust and clear. "It is required to diversify the contributions of each nation, according to its national capacities, whether with financial resources, specialized personnel, logistical support, equipment or appropriate technical services.

The Dominican Republic, for its part, will continue to offer medical assistance to MSS personnel, as it has been doing for more than a year," said the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs when participating in the meeting of the Ad Hoc Consultative Group on Haiti, convened by Canada and Haiti."We continue to consider it essential to strengthen the sanctions committee and the arms embargo, complying with the mandate of resolution 2653 (October 21, 2022). In this regard, we call on member states to redouble their efforts in support of this resolution," added the Minister of Foreign Affairs at this meeting held within the framework of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, United States.
