SANTO DOMINGO. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Wednesday that it raised to yellow alert to 10 provinces and the National District, while maintaining another eight under green alert, due to the effects of an active tropical wave with high cyclonic potential and a trough at high levels of the troposphere. The provinces under yellow alert are: Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo and Monte Plata.

Meanwhile, under green alert remain Barahona, San Juan, Azua, San José de Ocoa, Peravia, San Cristóbal and Sánchez Ramírez. The COE explained that significant rainfall accumulations are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, which could generate river, stream, and ravine flooding, as well as flash or urban floods. On the Atlantic coast, from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Cabo Francés Viejo (María Trinidad Sánchez), a deterioration of the waves is expected, so it recommended that fragile, small and medium-sized vessels navigate with caution and not venture out to sea. The entity urged the population to stay in contact with rescue organizations and follow civil protection recommendations, avoiding crossing rivers or streams with high water volume and refraining from using spas in the provinces under alert.
