Santo Domingo. – After more than a year of preliminary hearings, lawyer Wilson Beriguete presented this Friday the final conclusions in defense of former senator Rafael Calderón, who faces charges of money laundering and fraud against the State, formulated by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA). During his intervention, Beriguete maintained that the accusations lack legal basis and pointed out that there is no concrete evidence linking Calderón to the crimes he is accused of. The lawyer also argued that the accusation seems to respond to political motivations, rather than legal grounds or solid evidence. The defender explained that, throughout the process, the lack of objective elements to support the accusation has been evident and emphasized that his client has always acted within the framework of the law. "There is no evidence to support these charges; it is an action that seeks to politically harm my client," said Beriguete.

With the presentation of these conclusions, the competent court is in a position to decide whether or not to open the trial against the former senator. The case has been closely followed by public opinion, given the relevance of the charges and Calderón's political career in the Dominican Republic.
