Blue Jays wake up with home run rain and force ALCS Game 4 against the Mariners

Seattle, USA – The Toronto Blue Jays ignited their bats at the most necessary moment. With a barrage of home runs and an unstoppable offense, the Canadians crushed the Seattle Mariners 13-4 this Wednesday in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), avoiding the sweep and forcing a fourth game.

The ninth batter, Andrés Giménez, was the unexpected hero of the night by hitting a two-run home run that completely changed the course of the game. From that moment on, Toronto unleashed a relentless offense that included home runs by George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Alejandro Kirk, and Addison Barger, all contributing to one of the most resounding victories in their recent postseason history. “When you're up against the wall, there's only one way out: start throwing punches,” commented closer Jeff Hoffman, alluding to the combative character with which the team took to the field.

Opener Shane Bieber managed to stabilize after allowing an early home run by Julio Rodríguez, who ignited the T-Mobile Park crowd with a two-run hit and his characteristic “golden trident”. However, the local excitement was short-lived: the Toronto lineup mercilessly punished opener George Kirby, who lost control in a nightmarish second inning for Seattle.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider had made adjustments before the game, moving Anthony Santander to the fourth spot behind Guerrero Jr. The decision paid off, giving more depth and power to an offensive order that finally responded.

“We knew we needed a big hit, a change of energy. Today we got it throughout the lineup,” Schneider said.

The victory gives Toronto momentum, which now reduces the deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. In the history of series with a 2-3-2 format, teams that win the third game on the road after being down 0-2 have managed to come back in three out of eleven occasions, a statistic that the Blue Jays hope to improve. The ALCS Game 4 will be played this Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. PT) at the same venue, with veteran Max Scherzer confirmed to start for Toronto in an attempt to tie the series.
