Russia and Morocco celebrate agreement in Gaza and call for a stable ceasefire

The foreign ministers of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, and Morocco, Nasser Bourita, celebrated this Thursday the agreement reached in Gaza and called for a stable ceasefire that allows the reconstruction of that territory devastated by the war and the resumption of the process of creating the Palestinian State. "We celebrate the positive changes (...) in the Palestinian territories and above all in the Gaza Strip. We express satisfaction with the successful implementation of the first phase of the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the ceasefire," Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting with his Moroccan counterpart. The head of Russian diplomacy noted that he "discussed in detail the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone" with Burita and stressed that "Morocco traditionally plays a very important role in supporting efforts to achieve a peaceful solution to the Palestinian problem."

"We hope that the agreements reached (in Gaza) are strictly adhered to, including the results of the October 13 peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), and that the matter ends with the fulfillment of these agreements," he added. Furthermore, he estimated that "the ceasefire in Gaza must, of course, be stable, to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to begin." "It is necessary to resume as soon as possible the political process of resolving the conflict in the Middle East (...) which foresees the creation of a Palestinian state that coexists peacefully with Israel," Lavrov asserted, noting that this would mean the solution to the age-old conflict. In turn, the head of Moroccan diplomacy celebrated Russia's role in the international arena and highlighted the strength of the ties between Moscow and Rabat. "Our interaction is not directed against anyone. It is aimed at promoting peace, whether in the Arab world or in Africa. We always welcome the positive influence that Russia exerts in the solution of multiple problems in these regions," said Burita, who also invited Lavrov to visit Morocco. In addition, the Moroccan minister praised the efforts of US President Donald Trump, "aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring access to humanitarian aid." "We trust that all the conditions of the agreement will be met," he said. Regarding bilateral relations, he confirmed their strategic character. "This is also the position of the King of Morocco (Mohamed VI). He values these ties and also the relations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. We are united by truly fruitful relations," he pointed out, recalling that in 2026 a decade will be completed since the signing of the strategic partnership agreement between Moscow and Rabat. Both ministers signed a memorandum of understanding today for the creation of a Russian-Moroccan committee to strengthen the strategic partnership between both countries, in view of the Russia-Morocco Intergovernmental Commission that will be held this Friday in the Russian capital.
