456 bags with human remains found around a World Cup stadium in Mexico

Groups of families of the disappeared have found to date at least 456 bags with human remains in the vicinity of the Akron stadium of the Chivas de Guadalajara, located in Jalisco, and which will be one of the main venues of the 2026 World Cup, revealed the Mexican portal Aristegui Noticias. According to the report, the finding was made by the "searchers", as the people who have a missing family member are called, of the more than 130,000 in the country, and who, faced with the anomie of the authorities, go out themselves to search for the bodies in clandestine graves.

José Raúl Servín García, a member of the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective, explained that they have been working in this area for three years and that the most recent recovery of human remains was carried out last September. He also lamented that some of the matches of the 2026 World Cup will be held in a place where there is "so much evil" because in its vicinity, complete bodies, dismembered bodies, and skeletons of people who died between 2018 and 2024 have been found.

Graves

Servín García denounced that, with a view to the competition, the Government of Jalisco only cares about the economic aspect, since it intends to remove search files for missing persons so that visitors do not realize the magnitude of the problem. He also revealed that Governor Pablo Lemus wants to end the search and excavation of clandestine graves so that when the World Cup begins, the city seems "normal." The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 of next year in Mexico, USA, and Canada. The Mexican venues will be the Azteca Stadium (Mexico City, where the opening ceremony will take place); the Monterrey Stadium (Nuevo León); and the Guadalajara Stadium (better known as Akron, a brand of automotive lubricants that sponsors the local club Chivas).
