Jarabacoa. – A French tourist lost his life on the afternoon of this Wednesday during an excursion to Pico Duarte via the Manabao route, in circumstances that are still under investigation by the authorities. The deceased was identified as Davili Daniel, 72 years old, who was part of a group of 11 foreigners guided by Frankely Rosa Peralta, a resident of La Ciénega de Manabao. The expedition began at 7:17 in the morning, but around 11:30 a.m., while crossing the area known as La Laguna, the hiker presented physical discomfort. After reporting that he felt weak, the group decided to put him on a pack mule to facilitate his transfer. However, minutes later he lost consciousness and, according to the guide, when placed back on the ground he showed signs of cyanosis on his face, dying practically instantly. Companions of the tour reported that the foreigner suffered from heart conditions. At 4:20 p.m., in the Arraiján La Ciénega sector, personnel from the Criminal Investigations and Interpol Division of the National Police, headed by Major José A. Osoria Leonardo and Captain Rivas Peña Luis, along with the Public Ministry represented by prosecutor David Barrera, and the medical examiner Rafael Domínguez, proceeded to the removal of the body. The preliminary diagnosis points to a myocardial infarction, although the body is pending an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. An iPhone cell phone and RD$7,000 in cash were seized in the review, which were placed under the custody of the Public Ministry.
