RD shines with wushu, historic golf and new medals on Day XI of the Bolivarian Games

LIMA, Peru. The Dominican Republic completed one of its most productive days this Friday at the XX Bolivarian Games Ayacucho-Lima 2025, guided by a great harvest in wushu, a historic achievement in golf, and outstanding performances in table tennis, athletics, and karate. In total, the country added 13 medals, consolidating itself in the seventh position of the general medal table with 64 medals (12 gold, 17 silver, and 35 bronze).

Wushu dominates with eight medals, including three gold

AYACUCHO, Peru. The wushu team was the protagonist of the day by winning eight medals: three gold, two silver and three bronze, far exceeding their performance in 2024. The golden champions were:
  • Jefry Báez (+56 and -60 kg), winner 2-1 against Peruvian Henry Fernández.
  • Elían Andújar Sena (+75 and -80 kg), with a resounding 2-0 victory over Héctor Reyes Núñez (VEN).
  • Kelvin Luis Moquete (-56 kg), after defeating Peruvian Junior Huaman Orue 2-0.
The silver medals went to:
  • Carlos Custodio (+65 and -70 kg), defeated 0-2 by the Venezuelan Jorman Serrano.
  • Yordaly Durán (+70 and -75 kg), who lost 1-2 to the Venezuelan José Montaño.
The bronzes were obtained by Saúl Quiterio, Jerika Lima and Jenifer García Jáquez.

Table tennis: Eva Brito adds a silver medal to the medal table

The experienced Eva Brito won the silver medal in the women's singles table tennis. She fell in the final against Chilean Zhiying Zeng by 4-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-4, 11-3). Brito advanced with triumphs over Judith Morales (CHI), Cristina Gómez (VEN) and Sofía Vega (CHI). In other results:
  • Yasiris Ortiz was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
  • Esmerlin Castro fell in the round of 16 against Morales (CHI).

Karate adds three bronzes

Dominican karatekas secured three bronze medals:
  • Ramphy Báez Bourbon (-67 kg), winner against Andree Quezada (BOL) in the repechage.
  • Ámbar García Mañón (-55 kg), winner 6-2 against Hazel Ramos (ESA).
  • Penélope Polanco Díaz, who defeated Ariane Monje (BOL) 14-4.

Historical Golf: Willy Pumarol Makes History for DR

Golfer Willy Pumarol wrote a golden page for Dominican sports by winning the first golf medal in Olympic cycle events, achieving the bronze with a total score of 274 (-10) after four rounds. In the final round he signed 69 strokes (-2).
His compatriot Juan José Guerra finished in 12th place (-3). Gold went to Manuel Torres (VEN) with -16, and silver to Gabriel Morgan (CHI) with -15.

Athletics: bronze in the mixed 4x400 relay

The mixed 4x400 team, composed of Bianka Acosta, Ferdy Agramonte, Estrella De Aza, and Juander Santos, obtained the bronze medal with a time of 3:20.72.

With this result, athletics closed its participation with 9 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

Tennis: Peter Beltrán will go for the bronze

The Dominican Peter Beltrán fell in the semifinals against the Peruvian Akron Huertas (1-6, 6-2, 6-3) and will play this Saturday for the bronze against the Chilean Benjamín Torrealba Fede.

Beach Volleyball

  • The male duo Hayerling De Jesús / Melvin De Jesús fell 0-2 against Colombia in the quarterfinals.
  • In the women's category, Julibeth Payano / Yari Cleto finished seventh after defeating Chile 2-1 in the consolation matches.

Road Cycling

  • Jesús Marte Céspedes was the best-placed Dominican, finishing in 11th place with a time of 3h 31:49.
  • Steven Polanco finished in 17th place and Rudy Germoso Gómez in 22nd, both with the same time.

Equestrian

Tennis – Women's Doubles

The duo of Ana Zamburek Martes / Kelly Williford Leonardo finished in fourth place, after falling 6-0, 6-3 against the Chileans Jimar González and Antonia Vergara in the bronze medal match.
