Chess in the Colonial Zone brings together more than 200 players in the XIV Conde Peatonal Tournament

Santo Domingo.- Hundreds of young people, children and adults gathered on El Conde street, in the Colonial Zone, to participate in the XIV Conde Peatonal Chess Tournament, an event organized by the Pro Chess and Culture Foundation which for 14 consecutive years promotes this science sport outdoors. The president of the organizing committee, Aquiles Rodríguez, informed that around 200 competitors from different provinces of the country registered this year, thanks to the support of private entities that sponsor cash prizes, medals, and trophies. Players like Carlos Sánchez, originally from Monte Plata, highlighted the experience of being able to share and meet new friends in a family and educational environment. "Chess not only develops the cognitive part, it also gives you discipline, helps you concentrate and learn from mistakes," said Sánchez, who has participated in several editions of the tournament.

Aquiles Rodríguez highlighted that it is proven that children who practice chess show better academic performance, greater analytical capacity, and strengthen values such as respect and patience. The event was attended by security authorities to ensure the smooth development of the activity in a busy area of the Colonial Zone. Rodríguez urged institutions such as the Ministry of Sports, the City Council and the Ministry of Culture to formally support this initiative, which attracts more followers every year and promotes the intellectual development of Dominican youth through chess.
