“He was the best basketball player in the neighborhood”: neighbors describe young man shot dead in La Caleta

Santo Domingo.– The community of La Caleta, in Boca Chica, is dismayed after a violent event that took the life of Elvin Sadel Urbáez Delgado, 19 years old, and left his younger brother, Erwin Sadel, 18, seriously injured. Neighbors in the area, who asked to remain anonymous, described Elvin as a "star of the neighborhood", loved by all and recognized for his basketball talent. They also stated that they do not understand why they are trying to link him to criminal gangs, stating that both young men were quiet and home-loving boys. According to the testimonies, Elvin was sharing at a party with friends when an individual known as "Erick" tried to take his chain. The struggle was brief, but it ended tragically when another young man nicknamed "El Fuli" fired a shot that caused his death almost immediately.

His brother Erwin tried to intervene to defend him, but was also injured by several shots. He is currently admitted to a health center, with a stable diagnosis. The event has generated outrage and pain among the residents of La Caleta, who are clamoring for justice and greater security in the area.
