Washington.- The Vice President and the Secretary of State of the U.S., JD Vance and Marco Rubio, and the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Vivian Motzfeldt, held a meeting this Wednesday at the White House that lasted about 50 minutes and revolved around Washington's persistent desires to annex the island dependent on the Danish crown.

After the meeting, held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, in the White House complex, the Danish embassy has scheduled a press conference by Rasmussen and Motzfeldt that is expected to start at 2:00 PM local time (7:00 PM GMT).

The meeting, requested by the Danish and Greenlandic authorities, takes place in a context in which the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has intensified pressure to take control of Greenland, alleging national security interests for his country.

Trump himself reiterated today in a message on Truth Social that with Greenland in "hands" of his country NATO will be much more effective and added that "anything less than that is unacceptable".

Both Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have rejected the possibility of the United States taking over the island, whether through a purchase or by military force.

The Danish Ministry of Defense announced that, starting this Wednesday, it will increase the military presence and maneuvers in this Danish autonomous territory, in collaboration with its NATO allies, due to the increase in tensions in the Arctic. Several European countries, led by the United Kingdom and Germany, have reported this week that they are considering the possibility of NATO reinforcing its presence on the island to deter threats from Trump.
