La Romana. – The National Police reported that it intervened promptly in an incident recorded in the La Palma sector, Guaymate municipality, after a confusion occurred among community members, who misinterpreted that a woman was trying to kidnap a minor at the exit of an educational center, which was later attributed to mental health problems suffered by the woman. The incident occurred in the afternoon, on José Francisco Peña Gómez street, when Mrs. Ginet Adalkiris Quezada Martínez, 36 years old, took the hands of a seven-year-old boy as he was leaving the Iscayagua Nueva public school. This action caused alarm among those present, who held the woman until the authorities arrived.

Members of the Crimes and Offenses Against Persons Division, along with operational personnel, immediately arrived at the scene and transferred the woman to the corresponding detachment for verification and investigation purposes, under the supervision of the Public Ministry. After the investigations carried out, it was determined that there was no attempted kidnapping. The authorities established that Mrs. Quezada Martínez suffers from a mental health condition and had confused the minor with one of her children, due to physical and age similarities. Family members of the woman reported that she has a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder and has been receiving specialized medical treatment since 2009, information that was duly supported by a medical certification presented to the Public Ministry. The minor's mother corroborated before the authorities that, after talking with the woman, she was able to confirm that there was no criminal intent, but rather a confusion derived from her mental health condition. As part of the corresponding protocol, the Public Ministry summoned the minor's mother and the school's doorman for formal interviews, while the child will be evaluated by a psychologist from the specialized unit. The National Police reiterated its commitment to the protection of children, respect for human rights, and the responsible handling of situations involving people with mental health conditions, urging citizens to always go to the authorities and avoid actions that could endanger the integrity of others.
