The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is not planning to speak with the acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, at the moment, but such a meeting can be quickly coordinated "if necessary", Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said today. "For the time being, Putin does not have this (to converse with the Venezuelan president) in his plans for the coming days, but if necessary, this can be organized, without a doubt," he asserted in his daily telephone press conference. However, he indicated that the Russian authorities are "in constant contact with the president through diplomatic channels."

Venezuela's Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, was sworn in on January 5 as the acting head of the country, two days after the capture of the ruler Nicolás Maduro and his wife, deputy Cilia Flores, by US forces amid a series of attacks in Caracas and three nearby states. Despite the close alliance between Moscow and Caracas, Russia has avoided openly condemning the capture of Maduro, whom Russian President Vladimir Putin received in the Kremlin last May.
