Poor sea conditions force navigation restrictions on the country's coasts

Santo Domingo.–The Emergency Operations Center (COE) Directorate reported that, according to the meteorological bulletin issued today by the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), maritime conditions continue to deteriorate significantly on both coasts of the national territory. According to the report, this adverse situation will persist for an estimated period of between 24 and 48 hours, due to the incidence of abnormal winds and waves that represent a high risk for navigation.

In that sense, INDOMET recommended that operators of fragile, small, and medium-sized vessels remain in port on the Atlantic coast, from Luperón Bay, in Puerto Plata province, to Cabo San Rafael, in La Altagracia, due to the dangerous sea conditions. Also, on the Caribbean coast, the same recommendation was issued for vessels in these categories, covering from Cabo Beata, in Pedernales province, to Barahona province. Authorities urge the population, especially fishermen, tour operators, and boat owners, to heed official recommendations and remain attentive to upcoming weather bulletins in order to avoid incidents and protect human lives.
