National Police and Public Prosecutor's Office deepen investigation into the death of a girl in Girasoles I

Santo Domingo.- The National Police reports that it is actively and as a priority investigating the tragic death of a one-year-old girl, which occurred in the Girasoles I sector of the National District. The minor, identified as Ruth Angélica Mota Martínez, was found lifeless in circumstances that are being duly clarified by our specialized investigation teams. The institution of order indicated that this event deeply moves the entire institution and society, which is why all necessary resources are being exhausted to establish responsibilities and bring justice to this case. In due course, the National Police will provide further details as the investigation progresses.

Case Context

The discovery of the lifeless body of the infant has generated deep consternation among the residents of the Los Girasoles sector, who since the early hours of the day had joined the search after her disappearance was reported. According to preliminary versions, family members and neighbors toured different areas of the community in the hope of finding the whereabouts of the minor, whose absence set off alarms in the sector. Hours later, community members located the body in a ravine in the area, which prompted the rapid intervention of the authorities. Members of the National Police and the Public Ministry appeared at the scene, who proceeded to cordon off the area to begin the corresponding investigations. As of yet, the circumstances in which the event occurred have not been clarified, while the authorities continue to deepen the investigations to determine responsibilities.
