Punta Cana.FL Technics, a global provider of aircraft maintenance services, in partnership with Grupo Puntacana, will jointly invest $70 million to establish the first independent aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility. This will create more than 2,000 technical and professional positions, and Dominican workers are expected to assume leadership roles as the operation matures.
FL Technics' new aviation MRO facility in Punta Cana will provide Dominicans with technical career opportunities. The company already has extensive experience in both mentoring students and training experienced specialists in different technical fields, and plans to share this knowledge with the local workforce.

“This is not a short-term project. We are focused on building an operation that Dominican professionals will eventually lead, generating a lasting impact on the country's aviation sector. To achieve this, we are preparing specific learning programs and establishing partnerships with local educational institutions to create the most effective skills development models,” says Žilvinas Lapinskas, CEO of FL Technics Group.

The new facilities in Punta Cana represent a change from the traditional aviation services operated by foreigners in the region. While FL Technics will initially deploy professional engineers from its global MRO centers to ensure training and compliance with regulations, the company's clear objective is to transfer operational leadership to certified Dominican professionals.

According to the requirements of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), aircraft maintenance technicians must complete 24 months of practical experience, in addition to passing theoretical and practical exams in the categories of fuselage and powerplant.

"In addition to guiding Dominicans towards careers in aviation through training programs, we are committed to offering fair contracts, safe working conditions, competitive salaries, language courses, and access to high-level technical and leadership positions," states Mr. Lapinskas. The implementation of the new facilities will be carried out in three strategic phases, starting with a 20,000-square-meter hangar that houses five maintenance bays designed for thorough aircraft inspections. Each bay can handle up to 500 man-hours per day, and hiring is already underway for the initial phase. The second phase will double the capacity to 12 bays, while the third will expand to 20, positioning the site among the largest MRO facilities in the Caribbean. The new hangar will service Airbus A320F and Boeing 737 NG and MAX aircraft, enabling FL Technics to support airlines operating in North America, Central America, and South America.
