Recognized Colombian artists such as Juanes, Adriana Lucía and the band Morat spoke out on their social media to express their rejection of violence and their solidarity with the injured leader.
"Everything that is happening is dark. This is a national failure. The attack on Miguel Uribe is an attack on Colombia, on democracy. It is a deep sadness," wrote singer Adriana Lucía, one of the most active voices in social causes in the country. In another message, the artist added: "Colombia needs greatness, the kind we have always lacked as a society."
Uribe Turbay received two bullet wounds yesterday fired by a man who was among a group of supporters listening to a speech of his at a political event in a park in Modelia, a neighborhood in the Fontibón district, in the west of the Colombian capital.Images circulating on social media show how the hitman, who according to the Prosecutor's Office is a 15-year-old minor who was arrested minutes after the attack, pulls out a weapon and shoots in the direction of the presidential candidate's head, who collapses after receiving a first shot.
The singer Juanes also joined the chorus of solidarity: "How much Colombia hurts me at this moment... It's not fair, it's not necessary to go this far. My solidarity with Miguel Uribe and his entire family."
The band Morat, for their part, expressed their rejection of what happened: "Nothing justifies violence and as Colombians our history should always be a lesson, never a prediction."
The senator remains hospitalized at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, where last night he underwent a delicate surgery of approximately four hours that he overcame, but his condition remains critical, according to the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán.
The expressions of support from various cultural sectors join those of political leaders, human rights organizations, former presidents, and citizens, who have expressed their concern about the deterioration of the political climate and security in Colombia following the attack.
