Rio de Janeiro.- At least two students died and three others were injured this Thursday after a shooting at a school in the state of Ceará (northeast of Brazil), according to preliminary information released by official sources.
The shooting occurred at the Luiz Felipe State School, located in the Campo dos Velhos neighborhood, in the municipality of Sobral, during recess.

"The suspects fired from the school sidewalk, hitting the victims in the parking lot," states the statement sent to EFE by the Public Security Secretariat of Ceará. According to the note, a quantity of drugs, a precision scale, and a package were seized from one of the victims, who was a teenager. The Secretariat reported that all efforts of the security forces are being employed "to locate and capture those involved in the deaths of two adolescents, not yet formally identified." He also confirmed that three other victims suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to local health centers. Although the reasons for the events were not specified, the Secretariat indicated that investigations into the case are already underway and that the relevant expert assessments are being carried out. The governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas, regretted the events and called them "very serious and intolerable" in a message posted on social media.
