Kuala Lumpur, June 24 (EFE).- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim assured this Tuesday that Iran is "prepared for a ceasefire" and welcomes "peace" if Israel stops its attacks in Palestine and Iran, after speaking by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The leader of the Southeast Asian country, with a Muslim majority, said in a statement that Pezeshkian has confirmed that Iran "is prepared" for a cessation of hostilities, under those conditions, and that he asked for assistance in communicating his position "to other Islamic countries".
According to the text, the Iranian president urged "not to be carried away by false narratives and to understand the true context of Iran's retaliatory actions", without giving further details.
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran confirmed today that a ceasefire with Israel has been reached, proposed by US President Donald Trump, and which it described as a defeat for the Jewish State.
For its part, the Israeli government assured it had accepted Trump's proposal for a "bilateral ceasefire" with Iran, but warned that Israel would respond "firmly" to any violation.
Several hours after the start of the ceasefire, the Israeli army reported the detection of a new missile attack from Iran.
The Iranian Army said while Israel launched three waves of missiles once the cessation of hostilities began, which started at 04.00 GMT on Tuesday, 07.00 in Israel and 07.30 in Iran, according to Trump.
The Malaysian leader, who is presiding over the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year and is taking a more involved stance on international affairs than the group usually does, especially regarding Gaza, reiterated his condemnation of Israel's attacks.
"Since the beginning of the conflict, Malaysia has consistently maintained that violence is not the solution. However, for the sake of justice, we recognize Iran's right to respond to any form of aggression against its sovereignty. It is hypocritical for the world to recognize Israel's right to defend itself and deny it to Iran," said Anwar.
At least 28 Palestinians were killed this Tuesday by Israeli attacks while waiting for the distribution of food at a distribution point in the center of the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources in the enclave.
