Santo Domingo.— The Leones del Escogido commemorate this Tuesday the 105th anniversary of their founding, which occurred on February 17, 1921, in a sporting context marked by recent favorable results and a historical trajectory within Dominican professional baseball.

The capital team arrives at the date after obtaining the championship of the 2025-26 season, their 18th title, after defeating the Toros del Este in five games. In that final series, Junior Lake, Erik González and Sócrates Brito stood out offensively, under the direction of manager Ramón Santiago. The organization has won championships at different stages from the mid-20th century to the present, in addition to five Caribbean Series titles. According to the club's president, Eduardo Najri, the board aims to preserve the competitive tradition and institutional identity of the team, which is based at the Quisqueya Stadium. Throughout its history, Escogido has had outstanding players such as "Juan Marichal", "David Ortiz", and "Starling Marte". Its first competitive achievements date back to 1922, when it won its first national championship with the participation of the baseball player "Tetelo Vargas". The institution was founded by players from various local teams and has since been part of the historical structure of organized baseball in the Dominican Republic.
