Madrid (EFE).- Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, number two in the world, announced this Monday that he will not play the Toronto Masters 1,000, joining the already known absences of the ATP ranking leader, Italian Jannik Sinner, and the winner of twenty-four Grand Slam titles, Serbian Novak Djokovic, who will also not participate in the Canadian tournament.
"After many consecutive weeks of non-stop competition, I will not be able to play in Toronto this year. I have small muscle problems and need to recover physically and mentally for what's to come. I am very sorry for the tournament and for my fans in Canada. See you next year!", the tennis player from Murcia posted on his social media.
The main contenders who will be in the tournament
Those who will play the Toronto Masters 1,000 from July 27 to August 7, on hard court, will be the German Alexander Zverev, winner in 2017, the American Taylor Fritz, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the Dane Holger Rune and the locals Felix Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov.
