New York.- Apple unveiled this Tuesday the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, with a starting price of $999, as well as a redesign of the iPhone Pro, the high-end models of its new iPhone 17 line, with a starting price of $1,099, which have a larger battery than any iPhone to date.
The apple company emphasized that the Pro models have "the same price as last year's iPhone 16 Pro with 256 gigabytes", hinting that the 20% tariffs faced by the company on imports from China have not translated into higher prices.
However, a year ago Apple offered the option of a lower-end iPhone 16 Pro for a cheaper starting price, $999, than this year.
The iPhone 17 (the basic one) also maintains the same starting price ($799) as the iPhone 16.
"Today, we surpass ourselves again with a new iPhone line that is unlike anything we've created. We are introducing four new models, each designed to meet the unique needs of our users," noted the company's CEO, Tim Cook.
Today, all eyes were on the presentation of the iPhone Air, a smartphone that the bitten apple company described as "powerful, but so thin and light that it seems to disappear in your hand".
The iPhone 17 Air is 5.6 mm thick, has a 6.5-inch screen, a battery that lasts "all day", an A19 Pro processor, and a dual 48-megapixel camera system.
There was also great expectation to see what the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max would be like, which feature a redesign of the rear camera bar - reminiscent of the Google Pixel design - which now extends to the width of the entire phone, instead of being located only on the left, where the cameras are.
The models now feature 48-megapixel sensors in their three cameras.
The camera rotates without user input
A novelty, for all iPhone 17 models, is that the front camera has a cutting-edge sensor that is capable of replacing the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio with a square format.
In today's examples, the company showed in a video how, with this change, users no longer have to turn the phone to take horizontal selfies, as these new models use AI to automatically adjust the framing and offer options from 4:3 vertical to 16:9 horizontal or even square.
AirPods Pro 3 Become Interpreters
Apple announced the AirPods Pro 3, the first major product update in three years, and one of its most outstanding features is that they can translate live using Apple's intelligence.
"Now, when you're with someone who speaks another language, for example when exploring a foreign market, AirPods Pro will help you understand them in your language," the company highlighted today.
In a prerecorded example, the company pointed out how two men were having a fluent conversation thanks to the smart headphones, even though one spoke in English and the other in Portuguese.
For cases where only one interlocutor has AirPods Pro 3, the company launched an iPhone application that transcribes in the desired language.
"Today, we build on these innovations and extend our leadership in world-class audio quality with the introduction of the next generation of AirPods Pro," Cook said. The AirPods Pro 3 will cost $249.
