A Florida man was arrested early Tuesday as the alleged perpetrator of fatally assaulting his roommate, authorities said.
The incident took place in a home in Pompano Beach located at 2912 Northwest Second Street, where emergency teams responded after receiving an alert about a lifeless person minutes before 1:00.
The victim, Karim Shouman, 39 years old, was found without vital signs in the kitchen and his death was confirmed by the rescuers upon arrival at the scene.
According to the report issued by the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Florida, the incident originated from a series of recurring discussions between Shouman and his partner, Shenard Jennings, 33, which led to a physical confrontation. "Jennings would have hit and assaulted Shouman, causing fatal injuries."

Authorities detailed that Jennings was arrested at the scene and faces a formal charge of first-degree murder. The area remained cordoned off while detectives from the Broward County Sheriff's homicide unit proceeded with the collection of evidence and the reconstruction of events to determine the motives that triggered the crime. The Pompano Beach Fire Rescue teams and the sheriff's office acted immediately after the emergency call received that morning. "Official records show that the conflicts between both parties had intensified during the previous weeks, with episodes of tension that finally led to the fatal outcome." According to court documents, Jennings remains in custody following his arrest and will be brought before a court for a preliminary hearing in the coming hours.
