Amid tears, Haitian woman recounts moment she was raped by police officers

Santo Domingo Este.– In the coercion measure hearing this Wednesday, the Haitian citizen who reported having been the victim of robbery and sexual assault by members of the National Police and the Navy, recounted through tears the difficult moment she experienced on the night of July 29th. The woman, who doesn't speak Spanish, recounted her experience through a Haitian pastor who acted as a translator during the hearing. The victim broke down when recalling how she was intercepted when returning to the country from Spain, forced into an official vehicle and subsequently sexually assaulted under threat of death.

She narrated that she was stripped of money and subjected to perform oral and vaginal sex while imploring her aggressors to release her because she had children to care for. The defendants, identified as Clara Rosa Yoli Gerónimo (sergeant of the National Police), Ronny Alberto Monzón Sánchez (police officer), Luis Ángel Taveras Herrera (member of the Navy) and Edwin Yurier Martínez Araujo (member of the National Police), remain in custody and await the judicial decision on the coercive measures in the Permanent Attention Office of Santo Domingo Este.
