Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader will lead this Tuesday the technical closing ceremony of the Duquesa landfill, one of the most transcendental environmental actions undertaken by the Government in Greater Santo Domingo at 10:30 in the morning.
With this act, the Government marks a milestone in the process of transforming the management of solid waste in the country, after decades of environmental, health, and social impact generated by Duquesa.
The technical closure is part of the Comprehensive and Sustainable Solid Waste Management Program, promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, with the technical and financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
In November 2025, the authorities presented the project's progress, highlighting that the closure of Duquesa responds to what is established in Law No. 225-20, on Integral Management and Co-processing of Solid Waste.
