Santo Domingo. - The Permanent Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies continued this Wednesday the analysis of the reform and approved an adjustment to the article on the astreinte, nullifying the modification introduced by the Senate and maintaining this section as established by the current Labor Code. The vice president of the commission, Jacobo Ramos, highlighted as a significant advance the modification to article 86, establishing that once the employment relationship has concluded, the employer has a maximum period of ten calendar days to pay the worker the compensation to which they are entitled. If the employer does not comply with this deadline, they must assume an additional economic penalty, consisting of the payment of one day's ordinary salary of the worker for each day of delay. "That is an important step within this labor reform that we are working on in Congress," said Ramos.

They insist there will be a Labor Code in the current legislature Regarding the questions about the alleged lack of meetings, Ramos assured that the commission has always remained active, although he acknowledged that the Christmas season and other commitments have generated some delay in the process, however, he assured that they are working to approve the code in the current legislature. "We are in a difficult time, Christmas, there is a lot of commitment in various sectors and that is why there has been some delay, but this code without any doubt I think it will be approved in this legislature because we are working for that," said the legislator. Likewise, the president of the commission, Melido Mercedes, assured that all the deputies who make up the study of the reform maintain the interest of submitting the report within the present legislature, with the aim of advancing the approval of the piece.
