Mexico sends humanitarian aid to Cuba with more than 814 tons of supplies

Mexico.- The Government of Mexico reported this Sunday the shipment of more than 814 tons of supplies to Cuba as a symbol of solidarity and humanitarian aid, amid the country's efforts to resume oil shipments despite the sanctions announced by US President Donald Trump. “Through the Mexican Navy, humanitarian aid is being sent to the Republic of Cuba, through the Papaloapan and Isla Holbox Logistics Support Ships. Both ships set sail today from the port of Veracruz with a cargo of more than 814 tons of supplies”, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement. The Mexican chancellery explained that the Papaloapan ship set sail from the Port of the Mexican state of Veracruz this morning at 8:00 a.m., and the Isla Holbox ship at 12:00 p.m., so it is expected that they "arrive at their destination in four days". The dependency detailed that the Papaloapan vessel transports essential food items, including "liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items, with a load of around 536 tons of those goods. While on the Buque Isla Holbox, he specified, “a little more than 277 tons of powdered milk were loaded for the same purpose.” He also clarified that more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be sent. It was also noted that the supplies, which come entirely from the Central Naval Region, were concentrated at the dock of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) in Veracruz, from where the corresponding shipment was made.

The SRE specified that this support keeps alive the solidarity tradition of the country with the peoples of Latin America and in particular with the people of Cuba, and recalled how in recent months Mexico has sent aid to the United States for the floods in Texas and the fires in California. This notice from the SRE comes after the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, gave the instruction for this shipment.

We are considering sending this aid, if not this weekend, then by Monday at the latest, and it is mainly food, along with some other supplies that they have asked us for”, the president pointed out on Friday during her morning press conference.

The sending of aid takes place days after Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), assured that the state-owned company sent oil to the island in 2025 for 496 million dollars.
