Popular SFM groups call for the release of Maduro and his wife

San Francisco de Macorís. — Groups from the political left and popular sectors held a press conference today in this city to express their solidarity with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, who are detained in the United States after a military operation that removed Maduro from power and took him to New York. During the conference, the representatives of these groups demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, denouncing what they called an aggression and imperialist interference by the United States. The organizers of the activity described the detention as a violation of Venezuela's sovereignty and called on the community to remain vigilant and in support of the principles of self-determination of peoples. Left-wing sectors internationally —such as China and Russia— have made similar calls in recent days, demanding that Maduro and his wife be released and that their situation be resolved through dialogue and negotiation within the framework of international law.
