Pornhub user data stolen from thousands

Data breaches pose a serious threat to privacy and security, as this confidential information can be used for reputational damage and blackmail.

The adult content platform Pornhub is facing extortion after the 'hacker' group ShinyHunters allegedly stole the search and viewing histories of users of its Pornhub Premium service through a data leak from Mixpanel, reports the Security Affairs portal. Data leakage poses a serious threat to the privacy and security of users, as this confidential information can be used to blackmail them and demand money.

"The cybersecurity incident affected Pornhub Premium subscribers. Passwords, payment data, and financial information were not compromised," Pornhub stated in a statement.

Mixpanel is a platform that provides product analytics and is used by companies to understand how users interact with their applications or websites.

In this context, Mixpanel representatives admitted that they suffered a hack in November of this year, but that it would not be related to this incident, since the last access to the adult website data was made from a legitimate account of an employee of Pornhub's parent company in 2023. These days, ShinyHunters is extorting Mixpanel's customers, claiming to have stolen 94 GB of data, including more than 200 million records.
