Santo Domingo Este. – A shocking event shook the country following the denunciation of a Haitian woman, who accused four members of the National Police and the Dominican Navy of having assaulted and sexually assaulted her on July 29, on España Avenue.
The victim, identified as Colas, reported that she had just returned from Spain and was traveling in a taxi from Las Américas International Airport when she was intercepted by an official vehicle. The accused are Clara Rosa Yoli Gerónimo (sergeant of the National Police), Ronny Alberto Monzón Sánchez (police officer), Luis Ángel Taveras Herrera (member of the Dominican Navy) and Edwin Yurier Martínez Araujo (member of the National Police).
According to the Public Ministry, the woman reported that $1,200 and 10,000 Dominican pesos were stolen from her before being taken to a secluded place, where she was sexually assaulted under threats of death with firearms.
Amid tears, the victim asserted that she begged the aggressors to release her because she had children to care for, but they continued with the abuse.
The case was reported that same day and the Gender, Sexual and Intrafamily Violence Unit initiated the investigation. The accused have already been arrested and today, Wednesday, September 3, coercive measures will be known to them at the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo Este, on Charles de Gaulle Avenue.
