Santo Domingo. - According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), an active tropical wave and a trough at several levels of the troposphere dominate the atmospheric conditions of the country, and generate an environment loaded with abundant humidity and instability, originating from morning hours, very conducive conditions for the presentation of cloudiness with variable intensity precipitation, electrical storms and wind gusts over towns of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Monte Plata, Peravia, San Cristóbal and El Gran Santo Domingo, among other nearby ones.
In the afternoon and evening, moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts are forecast for the aforementioned provinces and will extend to Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Barahona, San Juan, Elías Piña, and Independencia.
Tomorrow Friday, from dawn and during the morning, the cloudiness associated with the active tropical wave will continue to generate moderate rainfall at times, thunderstorms and wind gusts over the regions: north, northeast and Caribbean coast. In the afternoon, the showers will be moderate to heavy at times with thunderstorms and wind gusts, and will extend towards the portions: northwest, southwest, Cordillera Central and border area.
Due to the risk of urban flooding, resulting from the predicted rainfall, meteorological alert levels are maintained, as indicated below:

Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico:
Hurricane Gabrielle is located approximately 1055 kilometers west of the Azores. It is moving east at about 52 km/h. Its maximum sustained winds are about 144 km/h with stronger gusts in its surroundings.
Tropical Storm Humberto is located 775 km east/northeast of the Leeward Islands, Lesser Antilles and has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h with higher gusts. It is moving northwest at 17 km/h.
We are also monitoring an active tropical wave located over the eastern portion of the Dominican Republic with a 50% probability of cyclonic development over the next 2 days, while at 7 days, 80%.
Due to the geographical positions and expected trajectories, we are continuously monitoring these weather systems.

Summary: Atmospheric conditions remain dominated by a trough at various levels of the troposphere and an active tropical wave, which will maintain a favorable environment for moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts to occur in much of the country during the next 24 to 48 hours. On Saturday, during the morning hours, scattered showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts are forecast towards the Caribbean coast. In the afternoon, moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, especially over the portions: southwest, northwest, north and northeast, and then in the early hours of the night the precipitation will concentrate towards the border area. These atmospheric conditions are due to the abundant humidity in the air mass that covers us and the incidence of a trough at various levels of the troposphere.
