Santo Domingo. - Agents of the National Police, in coordination with the Public Ministry, are deepening investigations to establish the real circumstances in which a 36-year-old mother allegedly caused the death by poisoning of her three children, aged 11, 9 and 7 years old, respectively, and subsequently committed suicide by ingesting the same toxic substance, part of which was found in containers mixed with juice, as determined by crime scene processing technicians.
This tragic event occurred on the night of this Sunday in the Ensanche Isabelita sector, Santo Domingo East.
The woman was identified as Pennsylvania Mercedes Jiménez Valdez, who is said to have left a handwritten note, which is in the custody of investigators and the Public Ministry, in order to determine its authenticity and content.
The law enforcement agency specified that, out of respect for the investigative process and the integrity of the family members, the names of the deceased minors, two males and one female, are being withheld.
The incident occurred on B street corner 7, of the aforementioned sector.
Meanwhile, the bodies were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), where they will undergo the corresponding autopsies to officially determine the cause of death and the substance found at the crime scene will be subjected to toxicological forensic examinations.
The National Police reiterates that, as the investigative process progresses, more details of this unfortunate event will be offered.
