The Pope calls for rejection of "the logic of arrogance and revenge" between Israel and Iran

Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV urged to reject "the logic of arrogance and revenge" after the attacks between Israel and Iran and advocated for the path of dialogue and diplomacy to be undertaken, in a call at the end of the general audience held this Wednesday in St. Peter's Square before thousands of faithful.

The American pontiff explained that he continues to follow "with attention and hope" the development of what is happening in Israel, Iran and Palestine, and affirmed that the words of the prophet Isaiah resonate with urgency: "Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore."

He also urged that "the voice that comes from the Most High be heard and the wounds of the bloody actions of the last days be healed and any logic of arrogance and revenge be rejected and the path of dialogue, diplomacy and peace be chosen with determination." On the other hand, the Pope condemned "the cowardly terrorist attack against the Greek Orthodox community in the Mar Elias church in Damascus" and expressed his solidarity with all Christians in the Middle East. "I am near you, the whole Church is near you," he said. He also pointed out that "this tragic event recalls the deep fragility that continues to mark Syria, after years of conflict and instability". And he emphasized that "it is essential that the international community does not look the other way in this country, but continues to offer its support with gestures of solidarity and with a renewed commitment to peace and reconciliation."
