Rome prepares for the Youth Jubilee, which will bring together young people from 146 countries

Vatican City. - Rome is preparing for the Youth Jubilee, described as the “most anticipated moment” of the Holy Year and in which hundreds of thousands of young people from 146 countries, including war zones, will participate from July 28 to August 3, revealed The Vatican this Wednesday at the presentation of the event.

The person in charge of the organization on behalf of the Vatican, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, explained that the Youth Jubilee represents "the most anticipated moment" of the Holy Year, "as it has the highest attendance" and that of the pilgrims from 146 countries expected, 68% come from Europe, followed by the rest of the continents.

Among the attendees will be young people arriving from war zones, such as Lebanon, Iraq, Myanmar, Ukraine, Israel, Syria, and South Sudan. Although the Vatican did not offer data in the presentation, it is expected that about a million young people will camp and participate in the events that will be held on the esplanade of Tor Vergata, on the outskirts of Rome. The first half million pilgrims will arrive on Monday, July 28th, and to receive them, 270 parishes, 400 schools, 40 extracurricular centers, Civil Protection centers, sports stadiums, and families have been mobilized, and there will be nearly 70 events in various parts of Rome. On August 1st, the "penitential day" will take place at the Circus Maximus, with 200 priests taking turns every two hours under large tents installed to hear confessions from young people, while on August 2nd, the doors of Tor Vergata will open, where various bands and artists will entertain the faithful until 8:30 PM (6:30 PM GMT), when the Vigil will begin with Pope Leo XIV, who could arrive by helicopter. For the occasion, three young people from Italy, Mexico, and the United States will ask questions to the pontiff, who will answer in their respective languages. The Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Alfredo Mantovano, explained that for the event, more than 2,000 Civil Protection volunteers will be mobilized, mostly young people, who will welcome and assist the population, along with 300 volunteers from the Lazio Region and 200 from Rome capital. "A city ready to welcome the world," stated the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, who explained that for this occasion "the largest technological installation ever created for an event in Italy" has been created, which consists, among other things, of a 500-square-meter control room and will oversee the area that welcomes the pilgrims, of more than 500,000 square meters. Faced with the intense heat, more than 5 million bottles of drinking water and 70 nebulizers have been prepared and made available, and special attention has also been given to medical care, with 10 medical posts, 43 ambulances, and four quiet zones for those who need a moment of respite. "It's a great opportunity to spread a message that the Pope especially appreciates: unity and fraternity," concluded Fisichella.

For the moment, 17 million people have registered for the Jubilee activities.
