Trump criticizes U.S. judicial system after murder of Ukrainian refugee in North Carolina

Washington. – U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at what he called a weakness of the American judicial system, after learning of the murder of a Ukrainian refugee on a train in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, which occurred last August. In a message posted on Truth Social, the president noted that he had seen the video of the crime, in which the victim, identified as Irina Zarutska, was attacked with a knife while traveling in a train car. The aggressor, Decarlos Brown Jr., 34 years old, has an extensive criminal record and had been arrested 14 times, but released under the cash-free bail scheme.

“What was a criminal like this doing riding a train and walking freely on the streets? Criminals should be in prison,” Trump expressed, who blamed the Democrats for maintaining policies that, according to him, allow people with dangerous backgrounds to be free.

The president also criticized the country's main media outlets, accusing them of downplaying what he described as a horrible tragedy.

“The blood of this innocent woman is on the hands of the Democrats who refuse to imprison the wrongdoers,” he added.

Security camera footage shows the victim sitting in the train car around 10:00 p.m. while looking at her cell phone, unaware that the suspect was right behind her. Four minutes later, the man attacked her with a folding knife, stabbing her three times, one of them in the neck.
Following the event, Trump sent a message of condolences to Zarutska's family and reaffirmed that his government is committed to security. "If we don't confront these evil people, we don't have a country," he said.
The case arises amid new provisions signed by the president at the end of August, through which he eliminated cash-free bail for people detained in Washington D.C. and in other jurisdictions with similar policies. "We like clean, we like safe, and that's what we're getting," he concluded.
