MP arrests man convicted of domestic violence in Sánchez Ramírez

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry executed, through the Fugitives, Rebels and Convicts Capture Unit (Ucaprec) and the Directorate against Gender Violence, an arrest warrant against Miguel Sánchez Vásquez, convicted of acts of violence against his ex-partner in the province of Sánchez Ramírez. With the order, an irrevocable sentence will be executed that condemns him to serve half the sentence of 5 years in prison for domestic violence and against women, committed against his ex-partner in events recorded in 2020. The Ucaprec, headed by prosecutor Andry De Los Santos, executed the arrest warrant issued by the Execution of Sentence Court of the Judicial Department of La Vega. Sánchez Vásquez was convicted for the acts of violence against the victim, which occurred in January 2020. Various pieces of evidence were presented in the process, including testimonies with which it was established that the now convicted person physically and verbally assaulted the victim, whom he also threatened with death and constantly pursued.

The Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice suspended half of the sentence imposed on the defendant of five years in prison after partially accepting a cassation appeal filed by the defendant against criminal sentence no. 203-2024-SSEN-00264, issued by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the Judicial Department of La Vega, on September 4, 2024, which confirmed the sentence imposed in the first instance by the Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Sánchez Ramírez. Judges Francisco Antonio Jerez Mena, Nancy I. Salcedo Fernández, Fran Euclides Soto Sánchez, María G. Garabito Ramírez and Francisco Antonio Ortega Polanco, of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, overturned the part related to the criminal sanction and consequently conditionally suspended 2 years and 6 months of the imposed sentence, under rules established by the judge of the Execution of the Sentence of La Vega, warning him that if he does not comply with the imposed conditions he must serve the entire sentence ordered by the appealed judgment. The Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Sánchez Ramírez, through criminal judgment no. 963-2023-SSEN-00124, dated October 4, 2023, declared Sánchez Vázquez guilty of violating the legal provisions contained in articles 307, 309-2 and 309-3 of the Dominican Penal Code, as amended by Law no. 24-97, on Intrafamily Violence and against Women, for which he was sentenced to five (5) years in prison. The court also sentenced him to pay the criminal costs of the process.
