Elderly people cling to an embrace during the deadly floods in Mexico

A couple of elderly people were recorded embracing on the roof of their flooded home while waiting for rescue, during the heavy rains that are affecting Mexico with dozens of victims. The elderly, identified as Don Esteban and Doña Isabel, were surprised by the flood in the municipality of Poza Rica, Veracruz. The couple climbed onto the roof with the help of neighbors to await assistance. In a viral video, they can be seen embracing tightly with the water up to their knees and the neighborhood completely flooded. Subsequently, they were rescued by a group of people in a boat and taken to a safe place, report local media.

Devastating floods


The floods in Veracruz have left at least 18 dead and more than 29,000 homes affected. Nationwide, the death toll rises to 41 fatalities and 20 missing, with those affected also in the states of Querétaro, Puebla, Hidalgo and San Luis Potosí.

Authorities continue with rescue operations and humanitarian support for affected families. By: RT
