Dominican Olympic Committee recognizes 2025 class of immortals of Sport

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), through the Women and Sports Commission, distinguished this Friday the 2025 class of immortals of Dominican Sport, who will be exalted this Sunday, November 16, in the 59th Ceremonial of the Hall of Fame.

Garibaldy Bautista, president of the COD, and Dulce María Piña, director of the Women and Sports Commission, presented a recognition plaque to the 12 new inhabitants of the mountain of the gods of national sport, during the welcome lunch held by the Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame. "We are very honored to share with each of them, that starting Sunday they will be immortal. We congratulate the exalted and wish them the greatest success and good feelings in what remains of their lives," said Bautista, who highlighted the high significance that it has for the COD to recognize the trajectory of the future immortals of Sport. The also immortal Dulce María Piña, on behalf of the COD executive committee and the Women and Sports Commission, thanked for the space and support provided by the Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame, chaired by Dr. Dionisio Guzmán, so that the Dominican Olympic Committee could recognize the trajectory of the athletes who from Sunday will become immortals. In addition to Piña, the Women and Sports Commission includes volleyball player Camil Domínguez and taekwondo athlete Luisito Pie. The baseball players José Reyes, Edwin Encarnación, and José Offerman were presented with their plaques. Likewise, Juan Carlos Jacinto (judo), Rubén Salomón (karate), Joan Guzmán (boxing), Charlie Villanueva (basketball), Gonzalo Mejía (tennis), Wilfredo Almonte (athletics), and Luis Benítez (taekwondo) were also honored. The plaque corresponding to France Jackson (volleyball) was received by her teammate Cosiris Rodríguez, while that of the deceased volleyball coach Beato Miguel Cruz was removed by his son Cristian Cruz, who was inducted into immortality last year. During the welcome lunch, the Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame recognized the contributions and careers of photojournalists Antonio García Valoy and Valentín Pérez Terrero. Likewise, the long-standing chroniclers Ramón Cuello Segura and Domingo Batista, as well as the football and softball leader Manuel García, and the Liga del Oeste, received distinctions.
