American actor and comedian Jeffrey Garcia died at the age of 50 after facing a prolonged decline in his health. His death was confirmed on December 10 by his family to TMZ. According to details, life support was withdrawn from the actor the previous night at a hospital in Southern California.
The artist was known in the field for having voiced the character of Sheen Estevez in the animated franchise Jimmy Neutron; and for his work in other children's productions such as Happy Feet.
What was the cause of death of Jeffrey Garcia?
According to TMZ, Garcia was hospitalized around November 20th for a case of pneumonia. Although he managed to be discharged, his condition worsened weeks later.
The Monday before his death, he returned to the hospital due to experiencing breathing difficulties and on Tuesday he suffered a pulmonary collapse, a complication that led his family to make the decision to remove him from life support.
The American media also details that Garcia was going through a particularly difficult year in medical terms. In the spring, he suffered a cerebral aneurysm, during which he fell and hit his head. Although he recovered, he had a stroke a few weeks after that episode.
The tabloid indicates that the interpreter refused to receive certain treatments despite his delicate condition, which forced him to cancel several comedy performances in recent months.
Who was Jeffrey García?
Garcia began his career in the early nineties on the California comedy circuit. He performed at iconic venues like the Laugh Factory and soon drew attention for his improvisations, stage irreverence, and energetic style. That momentum led him to occasional roles on television, including appearances on Caroline in the City and Dangerous Minds, as well as the film LiteWeight.
His big break came in 2001, when he was called to play Sheen Estevez in the movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. The feature film, released in December of that year, grossed nearly 103 million dollars worldwide and became one of Nickelodeon's most important animated successes.
The film's success spurred the creation of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, a CGI animated series —the first of the channel with this format— which aired from 2002 to 2006. There, Garcia reprised his role as Sheen, the hyperactive and eccentric best friend of the protagonist.
The character's popularity led to the creation of its own spin-off: Planet Sheen which aired from 2010 to 2013.
In addition to his work at Nickelodeon, Garcia lent his voice to Pip in *Barnyard* and its spin-off series *Back at the Barnyard*, as well as film projects such as *Happy Feet*, *Happy Feet Two*, *Rio* and *Rio 2*. His latest role on the big screen was in the comedy *Holy Cash*, released in 2024, and he also recently appeared on the show *Comics Unleashed*, which aired in October.
Jeffrey Garcia was married to Lisa Garcia between 2002 and 2013, with whom he had two children.
His son Jojo wrote the following message on his social media: “My father was a unique soul. He was himself without complexes, and I will always admire the love, compassion, and drive he had. The talent my father possessed was truly unique. From dubbing to live comedy, he shone with his fresh wit, irreverent humor, and charm”.
