Mirna Ortiz qualifies Senasa case file as "an important legacy of evidence"

Santo Domingo. — Deputy Attorney Mirna Ortiz informed that the Public Ministry filed the request for coercion measure of the Cobra Operation case, supported by a voluminous file that includes more than 138 documentary evidence, 35 testimonial evidence and various judicial evidence, with which it seeks to sustain the accusation of corruption and bribery in the so-called Cobra Operation. Ortiz explained that the strength of the case caused three of the accused to admit their participation in the events, also agreeing to collaborate with the authorities and providing key information. Among his revelations, he confirmed that they paid bribes to members of the National Health Insurance, even pointing to its former director Santiago Hazim Albainy.

"This coercive measure has been of such magnitude that three of the accused have admitted their participation in the events and have also admitted their collaboration with the Public Ministry, providing evidence," said Ortiz, magistrate of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca). The representative of the Public Ministry added that the hearing will continue tomorrow at 2 p.m., when it will be the turn of the remaining defenses, followed by the Public Ministry's reply. After that phase, the Court will be in a position to deliberate and issue its decision on the requested measures. Ortiz described the file as "an important legacy of evidence" which, he claimed, exposes the structure of bribes and responsibilities within the investigated process.
